Focus 1
WORKING WITH CHANGE IN HOSPITAL -
The main focus of nursing management is responding to changing 'task needs' and switching to new roles and responsibilities according to the clinical cases and situations. Flexibility to accepting new responsibilities and being open to change management are the major issues here (see Phillips, 2005). In this context the analysis is focused on how my behaviour influences and supports the improvement of quality within health care. What are the feelings associated with this and how do I sustain my own morale and that of others during change?
The NHS has discussed change management in terms of participation and involvement, facilitation and support, and negotiation and agreement. One of the important points in nursing change management especially in terms of leadership includes participation and providing support to co-workers. In the context of change, the role of innovation has been highlighted by the NHS as innovation signifies creativity adding new perspectives and brings about change within an organisation. Managing innovation and finding out the links between creativity and innovation can help promote or facilitate changes in the health and information sector and also help in overcoming resistance to change and innovation (NELH, NHS 2004).
Considering leadership qualities that promote change management, overcoming resistance to change and innovation and participating in the process of change is a successful leadership approach. Resistance can be at an organisational, group or individual levels and the role of the leader is to motivate innovation, recognise team skills and be aware of recent research developments that are indicative of innovation within clinical practice. My personal behaviour as a leader within the nursing environment is driven by a need to recognise change management as necessary for improvements in the quality of care. Advanced techniques, tools, equipment and new theories improve quality of care and facilitate better services and providing updated knowledge on the use and importance of change is one of the ways of overcoming resistance to change at all levels.

Focus 2
PROVIDING LEADERSHIP TO STUDENTS
This includes finding a balance between the needs of the patients and of students. This is related to ways in which I am supportive to students and to patients and ways in which I prioritise tasks. What is my reflective analysis on this and what are my contributions to a quality learning environment?
