6) The skill to use tools like Marketing Information Systems, Marketing Decisions Support Systems or other such tools: -
Consumer reactions over a period of time have been stored in various information systems. This data base can be used to make different decisions at different point of times. A manager must first understand the use of such systems and should also be able to understand all factors of the system. These systems even if used are not very accurate and reliable. A marketing manager must have the ability to understand what data to be used and what data to be discarded. He must also understand the various factors that revolve around each variable of such support systems.
7) The ability to think like the Management/BOD or the CEO: -
The Management, Board of Directors and the CEO of a company have multi-dimensional view of the business unlike the mangers that are doing a specific job. A marketing manager is also supposed to understand other aspects of business like finance, logistics and human resource management so that he can relate all matters while executing his strategies.
8) The ability to audit productivity of the Marketing Plans: -
Every aspect of business has a budget allocated to it. The budget of every aspect has to have the ability to show adequate return. The auditing of such productivity in the case of Marketing is not done properly by most managers. Managers should be able to calculate the returns in terms of money for the funds allocated to his department. If he fails to do so the success or failure of the company’s strategy can not be credited to a particular department. A return on the budget also has to be calculated for, if the returns are not more than the budget allocated then the entire marketing would be of no use to the company.
9) The ability to monitor and control:-
Marketing is a task that is spread over a wide area. Each area has its own set targets and needs. For a marketing manager to ensure that work at every place is exactly as per plans is a difficult task altogether. He has to make sure that he is thorough knowledge of what is happening at every single place down the supply chain. He should be able to control all situations by visualizing the problems sitting in his office. He has to be prepared for all sorts of situations and take immediate action. It has to be ensured that every person in the distribution network is completely satisfied by the company.
10) The skill to sell with technology: -
Most senior level marketing managers are experienced in retailing or wholesaling distribution systems. Very few managers actually know what it takes to sell with technology i.e. the World Wide Web. Marketing online is a totally different ballgame.
