Free Economics Dissertations - It Moves Beyond The Simplistic Generalizations. It Has Not Got Any
It moves beyond the simplistic generalizations. It has not got any international headquarters, any political party, any traditional leaders or politicians running for office, and no single uniform ideology or an agenda. It in fact is expressed in many different ways in different places of the world. Not only is this new radicalism theory increasingly popular, common and widespread, it is also exceedingly uniquely innovative in promoting different ways to bring about a change in the world order.
Despite being an opposition to globalization, radicalism itself is a part of it. Its proponents cannot say that it is completely against globalization because they are aware of the fact that even when they are working against it, they are working in the same manner, globally and being part of the whole process.
Sustainability of Globalization
As globalization is a process which has a strong backing of the elite class and to a large extent, only serves their interest, they themselves have made an impression that globalization not only is unavoidable, but it also has been a great success. This is a very misleading idea and history is a proof of the fact that there was an earlier time period almost around a century ago when economic globalization was broken down and severely damaged by World War I and then completely crashed in the Great Depression. It is useful to keep in mind the fact that all actions produce reactions. The same frequently occurs in politics. From the perspective of the globalization discussion, it is at least arguable that the long period of liberalization and economic integration before the First World War sparked off pressures for de-globalization.
The lesson which the First World War gave to many Europeans was that interdependence was a fair-weather system. In times of war, crisis and economic dislocation the system proved unstable and nations were helpless. As a result, the pendulum swung away from laissez-faire and de-regulation towards a greater government intervention.
It was a period of increasing economic nationalism and an active government intervention in all aspects of economic life. However, despite this crash, globalization re-emerged and today it is a major factor contributing towards the social, economic and political policies of the world. This breaking down and then subsequent re-emergence of globalization points to the fact that globalization can be sustained only when the policy which is followed is right and a constant effort and a good leadership is there. Just as in the case of Great Britain and US, when Great Britain weakened, US was reluctant to take its place prior to World War II, that leadership was lacking and the old system collapsed. As Mark Twain said, history may not repeat itself, but it rhymes.
