The term spam History and origins
Spam as a technophiles worst nightmare largely came into use as a net term from the very genesis of the Internet, This strangely enough also coincided with Monty Python’s Flying circus which h then had just premiered within England as a comical satire of Theatre on Television.
The show had a continuous rerun of a waitress in a diner presenting the daily menu to a hungry customer .This menu was invariably always and absolutely spiked in its whole three meal course as SPAM the fabled lunchmeat.
Incidentally the trademark for spam is still owned by the firm Hormel. As the waitress kept on emphasizing the presence of Spam within the menu, the chorus was adopted by a collection of Vikings who sang boisterously spam spam spam, spam spam spam , Lovely spam , O wonderful spam until the Waitress was forced to shut them up !
Monty Python had within his fan list Hackers and geeky computer programmers whose interpretation of Nerd nirvana directly involved comedy by Monty python and this macabre scenario always overtook repetitive behavior typical of programmers and the various loops contained within computer code .
Naturally, this spewed into the various newsgroups available then, Monty Python’s included. It is geek legend that a message appeared that contained nothing but spam spam for pages and pages on end and somehow the frequency of this message across other newsgroups birthed the internet term called SPAM.
